Introduction What is Primavera P6 Enterprise Planning?
The Way We Were • Primavera adopted since mid 1990s • Mostly still standalone • Limited Multi user - P3 & SureTrak together • LAN access from one location
Why Change? - The Dartford Project • Single Scheme • Two projects • In total seven separate phases through ECI process • Multi user – Design and Construction • Initially 2 planners • Up to 8 users working on the project at peak • Access across WAN • Costain computers accessing Costain network • Site Team involvement • Section Managers reviewing live data • Updating progress every two weeks
Issues • Multi-user access • Users from different companies, different locations • Naming Convention • Consistency of code structures • Coding that applies through phases • Integrating Design & Construction programmes • Linking but not driving • Database security – varying user permissions • Developed standard hierarchy of security - global and project

Where we are now • Multi user collaboration common place • Used widely on large projects and JVs • Minimum Standards of planning being used • Bespoke Costain training courses deployed • Currently being used on (almost) all projects • For 90% clients • 90% Costain Planners using Enterprise • Most JV partners and key supply chain using Enterprise
Growing Pains • The skill set of planners • Diverse range of skills amongst people called ‘planners’ • The plan only as good as the weakest link • No industry standard of competency available • Different Client requirements across sectors • The one database solution does not always fit all • Issues with Enterprise settings not allowing diversity • Connectivity to the Enterprise • JV partners IT permissions needing to be adjusted • Project infrastructure not adequate
