SMHM 3370Fashion Theory Lolita Objectives • To determine why people dress the way they do. • To incorporate fashion theory with a specific group of evaluation. • To understand implications of dress and the separation from society. • To observe and evaluate the separation of group members from non members. • To identify culture, inspiration and history of the interest group. • To identify fashion interpretation of the group and the uniqueness of fashion trends associated within and outside of the group. Learning Outcomes • Lolita is a unique group that identifies with purity and innocence in a child –like manner. • The influence of Lolita is from past decades of Beauty such as the Victorian Age, Rococo Period and Edwardian Period. • Lolitas area expected to portray modesty and elegance in their clothing but certain subcultures of Lolita such as Gothic Lolita go against this ideology. • A n abundant amount of Lolitas tend to make their own clothing due to expensive Lolita ready-to -wear garments available. • Many Lolitas order their clothing online rather than purchase in retail stores. • Lolitas do not always dress in their Lolita clothing due to certain professions and education that can cause for their clothing to become worn, snagged or accident prone. • Lolita Fashion is not associated with the “Lolita” novel. • Lolita meet ups are relevant for members to meet up in their Lolita clothing. • Lolitas are a misunderstood group of women who portray themselves as young girls simply to escape from societal judgments.
