Introduction • Effect of phase load imbalance for 2 phase, 3 wire household load • Damping switching transients • load excursion using modulated filter and capacitor compensator (MPF/C) Green Plug . • The mushrooming use of nonlinear arc type and solid state converter type electric loads can cause real challenges to power quality standards where power quality, security, and reliability are key operational issues. • The paper presents a dynamic voltage stabilization and energy saving device. • The switching transients and load disturbances are greatly reduced
Various components • Two phase-three wire ac power supplies. • Capacitor bank as the storage input conditioning filters, • Blocking diode • MPFC-Green Plug compensator scheme • Loads: balanced nonlinear RL load, unbalanced nonlinear RL type and the unbalanced nonlinear type converter type load.
3 Basic Regulating Loops. • The rms neutral current (In) tracking loop to ensure a minimum neutral return current or imbalance current. • The minimum neutral rms current (Iref= 0.3 pu) reference tracking loop. • The low neutral current harmonic ripple loop for power quality enhancement.
Purpose of Multi-loop dynamic • To minimize switching transients • Maximize power/energy utilization under unbalanced load conditions. • The loop weighing factors is assigned to ensure loop time scaling and dominant loop (1) control action. • The control gains (Kp, Ki) are selected using a guided trial and error method to minimize an objective function as given in appendix.
Novel (MPFC-Green Plug) • Effective low cost energy utilization device • Power quality enhancement solution for reducing switching transients and load excursions • Use the low cost hybrid modulated tuned arm power filter and a switched capacitor bank compensator.

Summary • Low cost (MPFC-Green Plug) voltage compensation device • Regulated by a dynamic error driven tri-loop switching controller • Reduce the effect of switching transients • Reduce load disturbances. • Efficient electric energy utilization, • Voltage stabilization • Power quality can be enhanced as well as system effective power utilization.
Using of modulated filter and compensator (MPFC-Green Plug), the phase voltages can be maintained at around 1pu • The source power factor is greatly improved. • The transient over-voltages and surge type currents are damped. • Power factor increased and load voltage regulated. • Device is a member of a family of energy saving and dynamic PWM-Modulated power filters.
