Homework • Math – practice of what was learned that day • Math practice - XtraMath • Spelling – achievement based - SpellingCity • Vocabulary - Weekly • Reading and Reading Log - Weekly • Reports and presentations – Explorers and Mission • Extension Projects – Posted on website • First week – homework is done at school to model what “studying” looks like.
AR – Accelerated Reader • Students have individual reading ranges • Students have individual point goals for each trimester assigned to them • Quizzes can only be taken at school. Students can take quizzes during library, computers, or when finished with assignments in class.
AR Home Connect • Link is on TJ webpage and the 4th grade webpage • Allows parents and students to keep track of progress towards AR goal and quizzes taken • Parents can sign up for e-mail notifications of when your child has taken a quiz, and the score on the quiz.
Grading • Standards-based report card • Piloting electronic report cards • Continue to shift to Common Core • Parent teacher conferences (Sign-up Genius) • Review work and tests that come home in Red Folder each week • PEN COLOR Corrections: Green = Teacher Red = Student Blue = Peer
Student Expectations • Follow the rules • Complete assignments in time allotted • Quality workmanship • Rested, nourish and appropriately dressed (i.e. PE shoes on Mondays and Fridays)
Behavior • Positive reinforcement system • Gold Nuggets/General Store – Donations welcome! • Blue and Yellow Star Slips • Natural Consequences • Red slips with child chosen consequences – teacher approval • General Store/Friday drawings/School Wide Monthly Drawings/Preferred Activity Time (PAT)/Fun Friday
Parent’s Role • Support classroom activities • Schedule appointments outside of school time when possible • Communicate – ask whenever unsure! • Concerns- please put in writing or schedule a meeting

Field Trips • Gold Bug Mine - April • Old Sacramento Underground Tour and Capitol • Roseville Utility Center - May • No overnight trips • Letter coming home in a few weeks with more information and donation requests
Lunches and Snacks • Hot lunch – pre-pay when possible. If sending in money, please have students first and last name, and teacher’s name on anenvelope • Hot lunch – please send in snacks. • 12:05 – 12:25 Playground; 12:25 -12:47 Lunch • Snacks – a little goes a long way. Strive for healthy snacks that will satisfy their tummies • Birthday Treats – last day of the month and only prepackaged foods – send home at the end of the day. NO PEANUT/NUT PRODUCTS, please!
PE • Mondays and Fridays – 8:45 – 9:40 “First thing in the morning” Wear sneakers/tennis shoes. Notice went home last Friday with your child.
Pick Up • Two curbside pick-ups, on the Adventure Club side (driver’s side), and one on the primary side (passenger side). • Be courteous and patient. Don’t be “That guy” who leaves their car unattended in the loop. • Crosswalks, please! • Early pick-up? - Must sign student out in office.
Curriculum • Language Arts – Ready Reading Common Core • Vocabulary – Marzano • Writing – Learning Headquarters, Charlotte Knox, & RCSD district writing prompts. • Math – EngageNY • Social Studies – Scott Foresman Classroom has a large library of books for AR, reference. Chromebooks – research, AR, spelling, writing
Differentiating Instruction • Multi-tiered levels of learning • Students have less behavior issues • Intervention needs • Independence/Self-starters • Ability to provide more challenging/”forward march” opportunities! • GATE (Gifted and Talented Education)
School is important because… • “They teach you to learn and so you don’t be dume.” • “You learn” • “Children need to learn” • “you get an education” • “you learn math, getting smarter for getting jobs” • “you can learn and read and have fun” • “you get to learn more and because you get some good teachers that give you good prizes when you are good and also you get to go on a field trip with your cool teacher” • “it helps you learn new things, behave, and a chance to meet new people.” • “to get a good scholarship”
Our classroom should be ______ everyday • “neat, clean and organized” • “quiet” • “good and calm” • “great” • “clean because if you have too many pencils on the ground, someone might slip and get hert and the teacher will get mad.”

What do you hope to learn in 4th grade? • “to get better at writing” • “interesting facts about nature all over the world” • “add and subtract fractions” • “multiple subjects” • “about the missions” • “California history”
