PROJECT DESCRIPTION: • 12-story, fully operational aviation control tower • Precast reinforced concrete structure for the tower shaft and steel framing at the hexagonal cab and catwalk • Contains several levels of offices, 2 levels of electronics equipment, a staff break room with lockers and kitchen, a mechanical room and control cab with observation catwalk and roof access ladder and hatch • Includes traction elevator and fire stairs • Includes adjacent secure mechanical yard that contains back-up diesel generator, HVAC chillers and electrical transformers • Cab level is filled with specialized electronic, communication, mechanical and architectural features such as: Raised Access Flooring, Custom Cabinetry & Workstations, Custom Glazed Curtain Wall, Suspended Monitor Track, Disappearing Stairs, Roof Hatch, Concealed Wiring & Ductwork, Lightning Protection, Antennas, Exterior Catwalk, and Secure Access Controls DESIGN FEATURES: • Exterior design and materials blend with surrounding historic district while maintaining stringent base and Air Force Design Standards • Preserved large specimen oak trees • Brick pavers & arched canopy at entry • Designed in accordance with AT/FP standards set forth in the UFC 4-010-01 • Designed and specified to achieve LEED Green Building Rating (not funded) • Durable, low-maintenance interior & exterior finishes (Split-face CMU, precast concrete trim, Aluminum roofing and guardrails • Architectural details, such as keystone-type struts reflect the prominent and historic architecture of Barksdale AFB
