The Mountains • Home to much of California’s lakes • Also home to much of California’s forests • Source of much of California’s drinking water • Mt. Whitney is the highest point in the 48 contiguous states
(Central) Valley • Large areas of flat, low land • Often between mountains or hills • Fertile land, where many fruits and vegetables are grown • Central Valley located in Northern California
Desert • Much of land is flat and low • Very little rainfall • Home to a variety of plants and animals • A majority of animals are nocturnal • Extreme temperatures: very hot on summer days; very cold on winter nights • Death Valley is lowest point in all of the United States
