Prepared Speech Length: 3.5-4 minutes General Rules: • There is no required topic. • NOTE CARDS may be used, but speech should not be read. • GESTURES are acceptable, but PROPS are not allowed. • Speech must be given STANDING unless a handicapping condition prevents this. • Speech must be researched, written and delivered by the contestant.
Impromptu Speech Time to Prepare: 1 minute Length: 1.5-2 minutes General Rules: • You will be given a card with 3 topics on it and you must choose one. • You will be given 1 minute to prepare. • GESTURES are acceptable, but PROPS are not allowed. • Speech must be given STANDING unless a handicapping condition prevents this.
Let’s give it a Try! Pick one of the topics below: • What is the biggest effect of the internet? • If you could be any animal other than human, what would you be? Defend your choice. • Discuss the most memorable event in your life. You will now have 2 minutes to talk. Your partner should NOT interrupt you or respond. This is a SPEECH, not a conversation. GO!
Interview Length: 7 minutes General Rules: • You should start by introducing yourself to the judges. • You will be asked questions from the following 3 categories: • Participation (What student activities/clubs/sports are you involved in?) • Special Interests (Hobbies, travel, other interests) • Other (could be a wide range of things).
Interview 1 As your partner the following questions. Give them adequate time to answer. Make sure not to cut them off or make any rude responses to their answers: • How has participation in a club or sport affected you personally? • Tell me about your hobbies or interests? • What would you like to accomplish in the next 5 years?
Interview 2 As your partner the following questions. Give them adequate time to answer. Make sure not to cut them off or make any rude responses to their answers: • What meaningful experiences did you have as a team or club member? You can choose the team or club. • What would you like to do after you graduate from high school? • Tell me about an experience you have had traveling.
