Philosophy: • A system of values by which one lives • Any system of motivating concepts • The critique and analysis of fundamental beliefs as they come to be conceptualized and formulated
Values • Principles • Standards • Qualities that are considered worthwhile • To regard highly • Has to do with do’s and don’ts
Principles • A rule or standard, especially having to do with good behavior • Moral or ethical behavior • Judgments
Ethics • Principles of conduct • Conforming to accepted professional standards of conduct • The discipline of dealing with what is good and bad with moral duty and obligation
Components of Ethics • The ability to discern right from wrong • Commitment to do what is right, good and proper
Ethics = Action Values = beliefs and attitudes Ethics Does NOT equal Values
Ethics • How we meet the challenge of doing the right thing when that will cost more than we want to pay.

Responsibility • Being in charge of our choices • Being accountable for what we do or don’t do • It places obligations on us • Includes: accountability, pursuit of excellence, self-restraint
Fairness • Make decisions without prejudice or favoritism • Seek the truth
Caring • This is the heart of ethics • Involves an obligation to be honest, loyal, fair and respectful
Citizenship • Know the rules, obey the rules • Volunteers • Stays informed • Goes beyond what is expected
