  1. Trimethylaminuria (Fish Odor Syndrome) By: Patricia Sanders

  2. What is Trimethylaminuria? • Well, Trimethylaminuria is a disease that will cause you to smell like fish when you sweat, or urinate. Even your breathe!

  3. Cure or Method? • There is no cure for Trimethylaminuria. Although, there are ways to slow down the disease’s stench. • Avoiding foods containing Trimethylamine • Taking certain nutritional supplements • And many more!

  4. What causes Trimethylaminuria? Trimethylaminuria is caused when your doctor says you have a fishy smell all the time and he diagnosis you with Trimethylaminuria. “Trimethylamine is also the cause of the fishy smell associated with bacterial vaginosis” “People with Trimethylaminuria lack the enzyme called flavin-containing monooxygenase 3 (FMO3), which is produced in the liver.”

  5. Is there a test to see if you have inherited Trimethylaminuria? • “Most cases of Trimethylaminuria appear to be inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern” • “Carriers of an FMO3 mutation, however, may have mild symptoms of Trimethylaminuria or experience temporary episodes of fish-like body odor.” • There is no specific test, as I can see. Research showed no specific test.
