  1. The Shah of Iran What was the Shah of Iran’s role in government, what were the reasons for his overthrow and how did his overthrow impact the people of Iran, the U.S., and/or the rest of the world? By. Matt Ashbaugh

  2. Role In Government • The Shah was re-instated with the help of western intelligence agencies to be a stabilizing, pro-western leader in the Middle East • The primary role of the Shah and his government was to lead the centralization of the economy and the distribution of oil revenues

  3. Reasons for his overthrow • A struggling economy combined with rising unemployment and growing income gaps between those who benefitted from industrialization and those who did not benefit from it.

  4. Impact of Being Overthrown • De-stabilization in the Middle East • Struggling economy due to poor planning and trade restrictions.
