Broadband and TV- survey Status and development per 2nd Quarter 2011 Norway This is an unauthorized translation
The statistics are based on a survey of the Norwegian broadband- and TV-market. Telenor Norway have asked 4235 people in a TNS web panel about their household connections, usage and customer experience. The survey (web-panel) is carried out twice a year in Norway and has been carried out since Q1 2006.
Between Q1 2006 and Q2 2011 the usage of filesharing has declined from 29% to 13%. In numbers that means a reduction of approximately 284 000 households. The theory is that the increase in legal options and the availability of legal streaming services are the reasons for the reduction. It can be noted that there has not been any changes to Norwegian IPR enforcement law since 2006. N = 4235
Spotify has experienced an extraordinaire increase in users however , the increase seems to have stagnated in the last 12 months. The number of users who are signing up for the premium service instead of using the “free” advertisement subsidized version, is increasing and 1 out of 3 are now paying for using Spotify. N=4201
The number of users who pay for Spotify increases, while Wimp-users are starting to use the service on both their computers and mobile phones
