About CalHIPSO • Formed by three key partners representing target “priority primary care providers”: • California Medical Association (CMA) • California Association of Public Hospitals & Health Systems (CAPH) • California Primary Care Association (CPCA) • CalHIPSO is tasked with supporting 6,187 targeted providers throughout CA successfully adopt electronic health records • One of three Regional Extension Centers serving California

The HITECH Act authorizes incentive payments for eligible Medicare and Medicaid providers to achieve “meaningful use” of certified EHR technology. • By 2015, providers are expected to have adopted and to be actively using EHR systems in compliance with the “meaningful use” definitions recently released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. • Medicare-participating providers that do not reach this goal by 2015 will be subject to penalties under the Medicare program. CalHIPSO’s Target Providers – Priority Primary Care Providers (MD, DO, PA, NP) working in the following care settings: • Small private physician practices of 10 providers or less • Community health centers and other non-profit primary care clinics • Outpatient clinics operated by Critical Access and Rural hospitals • Ambulatory care clinics operated by public hospitals • Supplemental funding for 46 rural/critical access hospitals

CalHIPSO has identified 10 Local Extension Centers (LECs) across the state consisting of:- California’s QIO, serving rural providers statewide-- Lumetra serving the Bay Area- Health Center Controlled Networks-Coalitions led by medical societies-Statewide public hospital network *Over 1,500 providers enrolled to-date

  12. EHR Product Selection Process • CalHIPSO has selected eight Stage 1 EHR Vendors • Six of the eight have already been certified through ONC’s Temporary Certification Program • Negotiating standard contracts as part of Stage 2

  13. Service Partners • Service Partners work with LECs or CalHIPSO • Gold Service Partners provide hourly services based on a set of standards • Platinum Service Partners provides comprehensive services tied to the achievement of REC milestones and are paid on a per provider, per milestone basis

How do providers enroll? • Visit www.calhipso.org • Complete a Provider Registration Form • Submit a Provider Enrollment Agreement • Make payment via PayPal (note: Membership Fees are waived for PPCPs who join in 2010) • Start working with your Local Extension Center • Provider Enrollment is now open!
