O2 Safety O2 cylinders are Green & stamped "For medical use" Filled to 2000 PSI... can be a deadly missile O2 aids combustion - No smoking or sparks DO NOT HANDLE BY NECK ALONE Hold with at least one arm around bottle DO NOT STAND IT ON ITS BASE Lay it down in a secure position, and keep in its bag
Main Components Regulator Screw Main Valve Flow Rate Indicator Regulator wrench Flow Rate Knob Regulator index pins align with holes in O2 Cylinder neck O2 Cylinder
O2 Set-up - Step 1 Inspect seal for dirt/debris Do not cover w/ adhesive tape, petroleum jelly, etc. Face opening away from yourself/bystanders With wrench, "Crack" cylinder to clear away dirt/debris
O2 Set-up - Step 2 • Place Regulator over neck • Make sure O-Ring is in place (carry spare) • Align Pins of regulator with holes in cylinder neck • Tighten Regulator screw (finger tight) • Should see no space between regulator and collar wall
O2 Set-up - Step 3 Make sure flow rate knob reads “0” Open cylinder and read pressure (PSI) (righty-tighty, lefty loosey) Full is 2000; 500-1000 too low to keep in service
O2 Set-up - Step 4 • Attach O2 delivery device tubing • Delivery Device flow rates • - Non-Rebreather Mask & BVM - 10-15 L/min. • - Nasal Cannula - 1-6 L/min. ( >6 L/min causes nasal irritation)
O2 Set-up - Step 5 • Non- Rebreather Mask • Hold thumb over valve in Non-Rebreather Mask • Turn on O2 and watch for bag to inflate • Apply mask to patient • Bag should not deflate completely when patient inhales
O2 Delivery Time Sizes: D (350L), Super D (500L), and M (3,000L) Duration of Flow (gauge pressure – safe residual pressure) x cylinder constant/flow rate safe residual = 200, cylinder constant = .16 for D and 1.56 for M => 20 minutes for D at 15 L/min, 3.1hr for M
