  2. Scenario  Equation Despite the odds, Chicago Bulls drafted Derrick Rose as the #1 draft pick. Rose scored 55 points the first week of the season. On average, he scores about 17 points per game. Write an equation for the problem situation. Use x to represent the number of games and use y to represent the total points scored. Scenario y = 17x + 55 Total points Points per game Points scored 1st week Number of games(after 1st week)

  3. EXAMPLE 1Equation  Scenario Equation: y = 30x + 200 What is the constant in the equation? What is the rate of change in the equation? 200 30 Ms. Choi got a great phone plan in the summer with Sprint. She bought a new Palm Treo for $200. The plan includes unlimited internet and texting for just $30 per month! Scenario y =30x +200 Total Cost Cost of phone Monthlycharge Number of months

  4. EXAMPLE 2Equation  Scenario Equation: y = -12x + 120 What is the constant in the equation? What is the rate of change in the equation? 120 -12 The Algebra class received a set of brand new graphing calculators at the beginning of the year that contained 120 AA batteries. Each week, the teacher finds 12 missing batteries.  Scenario y =-12x +120 Number of batteries missing per week Initial number of batteries Number of batteries left Number of weeks
