  1. BLM Testing at APS Jeff Dooling Argonne National Laboratory SLAC Redwood Room A/B, SLAC Thursday, June 19, 2008

  2. Measurements at APS What do they tell us?

  3. Cerenkov Detector (CD) loss monitors in the APS SR • Distributed around the SR, ~1 per sector • Generally on the outboard side ~10 cm from the beam centerline • Small fused-silica, cylindrical radiators (8-mm OD, 8-mm length), V=0.4 cc • Close-coupled to small PMT

  4. APS CD

  5. CD Loss Signals during Top-UP

  6. CD Loss Signals during Top-Up--with large signals the amplitude saturatesbut the width keeps growing

  7. FO Beam Loss Position Monitor (BLPM)

  8. BLPM Loss Signals during Top Up injection

  9. Zooming in on the first injection loss case

  10. Zooming in further on the first injection loss case

  11. LCLS BLM

  12. Prototype testing at APS

  13. Prototype testing at APS—to go on in S35 and S9

  14. Acknowledgments Bingxin Yang and Bill Berg have contributed many hours to this project Also need to thank Adam Brill, Matt Kasa, Lester Erwin, Tony Pietryla, Mike Merritt, Liz Moog, and C.Y. Yao
