Basics • Conducted in 2008/2009 • 41 participants • 80% served populations over 500K • 40 out of 41 had eBook/eAudio collections • 38 out of 41 had materials budgets over $1 million
Results (Budgetary) • 46.3% had allocated money from physical materials collection budgets to downloadable materials collection budgets • 46.3% had separate line for all downloadable materials • 46.3% included in electronic resources budget
Results (Collections) • Adobe Reader PDF eBooks and eAudiobooks were the most popular formats • 58.5% preferred simultaneous usage models to traditional one person/one checkout models • 34 out of 41 purchased titles for all age levels. • 58.5% had non-circulating reference eBooks • Only 2 library systems circulated preloaded MP3 players. • 14 library systems allowed patrons to download content inside the library.
Results (Circulation) • 40 out of 41 included downloadables in circulation statistics • 13 out of 41 included downloadables in overall circulation statistics • 88% saw growth in circulation after adding downloadable collections
Results (Vendors) • 32 out of 41 started with NetLibrary • Vendor Partners • 90% Overdrive • 73% NetLibrary • 49% Cengage(Gale) • Preferred vendor qualities: • Ease of use for library customers • Multiple platforms • Allow for local branding • Wide selection of titles and formats
