  2. Lacrosse is a sport that is popular in the regions in and around the United States. It is a team sport that involves playing with a stick and a ball. It has its origins in the early years of 1100 A.D. in the areas of the modern New York, Pennsylvania. The Iroquois people, who occupied these areas and also parts of Northeast U.S., lower parts of Ontario and Quebec. They are credited with the discovery of Lacrosse as a cultural tradition. By the 1700s, it had spread to Canada, thanks to the Jesuits who were enthusiastic about this sport.

  3. The Beginning of Lacrosse • Early lacrosse involved two teams of men, each having about a hundred to a thousand men. The field of play could be anywhere from 1600 feet to 1.9 miles long. The games started at sunrise and lasted until sunset for two to three days at a stretch. It was more of a customary ritual that celebrated symbolic warfare and gave thanks to the Creator. The indigenous tribes held lacrosse as a very significant tradition all over North America.

  4. Changes in the Modern Game • The modern lacrosse game has undergone massive changes as is clearly evident. Now the sport has four major versions for professional games- men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, box lacrosse, and intercrosse. The field lacrosse for men is an outdoor version of this sport where two teams, with ten players each, compete for victory. The National College Lacrosse League has 131 schools that participate competitively in this sport.
