To promote Nordic-Baltic cutting edge innovations and development within creative industry dealing with cross disciplinary design and sustainable development • To emphasize environmentally sound lifestyle and social sense of responsibility
To offer a meeting place and network building event for Nordic & Baltic actors within design industry • To seek out new cooperation opportunities for R&D and production to strenghten the competitiveness of the industry in the Nordic-Baltic region
To promote Riga and the design festival «Design.Future 2011» organized by the Design Information Center, Latvia • To promote the upcoming World Design Capital of Helsinki in 2012 • To commemorate 20 years anniversary of the cooperation and presence of the Nordic Council of Ministers in Latvia

The basis for the Nordic Baltic Designers Events is formed by 3 combined exhibitions: 1. Sixteen Steps Closer – designer’s contributions to the Baltic Sea 16 different ideas for the future well-being of the Baltic Sea developed by architects, industrial, fashion and graphic designers from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania Curated by Kari Korkman (Helsinki Design Week)
2. An exhibition of designers’ previous works Each designer brings along 3-5 chosen works, emphasis on environmentally friendly projects Curated by Kari Korkman (Helsinki Design Week)
3. Marimekko exhibition A travelling high level design exhibition from the leading Finnish design brand Marimekko
