  3. March 1, 1931 • Vicente Ang and Chin Lim • HuaShing • “Save the Country” • AngKiukok was a trader’s son • In 1936, at age 5 he started his schooling at Chinese Highschool • Mansalca - highland tribe • Tan Kok King • 1947 - he found a job

  4. 1952 – study Fine Arts in Manila • - He found his educational home in the University of Santo Tomas where he studied under the greats of Philippine Art, these included: VictorioEdades, Diosado Lorenzo, Jose Garcia Llamas and many others. • Vicente Manansala • December 10, 1954 - Contemporary Arts Gallery • He won the 5th Shell Students Art Competition in 1955, and held another one man show at LydArguilla’s Philippine Art Gallery where well known works such as Pieta and Boats were featured.

  5. 1958 – cubism style • Association of the Philippine’ 12th Annual Art Exhibit - Blind Musicians • AAP Semi-Annual Art Exhibition - Still Life • 2001 - awarded as National Artist by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. • He continued to work passionately from home with his wife Maria and his 4 children. • May 9, 2005

AngKiukok as a Unique National Artist • AngKiukok's success stems mainly from the honesty of his art. • It is one of AngKiukok's strengths that he never allowed himself to be bulldozed by the public's whims. • Kiukok's paintings serve as reminders to a society where integrity and moral rectitude receive more lip service than practice. • AngKiukok continues to be a respected but enigmatic figure in the Manila art scene.

  7. Correspondence with other Artists • VirgilioAlmario a.k.a. Rio Alma saw a painting of AngKiukok, he felt an instant connection to it. • "This is my painter; this is my spirit," Almario recalls himself • Both attained the ultimate accolade — the National Artist award, Almario for Literature and Ang for Visual Arts. • It was a dream-come-true for Almario as the book " SonetosPostumos" was launched at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
