  1. Cloud Computing Presented By: Submitted to:

  2. Origin of term “Cloud Computing” • “Comes from the early days of the Internet where we drew the network as a cloud… we didn’t care where the messages went… the cloud hid it from us” – Kevin Marks, Google • First cloud around networking (TCP/IP abstraction) • Second cloud around documents (WWW data abstraction) • The emerging cloud abstracts infrastructure complexities of servers, applications, data, and heterogeneous platforms

  3. What is Cloud Computing? • Shared computing resources • Made up of Grid Infrastructure • Web applications • Specialized raw computing services

  4. Technical Key Points • User interaction interface: How users of cloud interface with the cloud • Services catalog: Services a user can request • System management: Manages the resources available • Provisioning tool: Carves out the systems from the cloud to deliver on the requested service • Monitoring and metering: Tracks the usage of the cloud (optional) • Servers: Virtual or physical servers managed by System management

  5. A Working Definition of Clouding • Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. • This cloud model promotes availability and is composed of five essential characteristics, three service models, and four deployment models.

  6. Essential Cloud Characteristics • On-demand self-service • Broad network access • Resource pooling • Location independence • Rapid elasticity • Measured service • Very Cost Effective (free ware)

  7. Cloud Service Models • Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) • Use provider’s applications over a network • Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) • Deploy customer-created applications to a cloud • Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) • Rent processing, storage, network capacity, and other fundamental computing resources To be considered “cloud” they must be deployed on top of cloud infrastructure that has the key characteristics

  8. Service Model Archietecture

  9. Cloud Deployment Models • Private cloud • enterprise owned or leased • Community cloud • shared infrastructure for specific community • Public cloud • Sold to the public, mega-scale infrastructure • Hybrid cloud • composition of two or more clouds

  10. Security is a Major Issue!

  11. Balancing Threat Exposure & Cost Effectiveness • Private clouds may have less threat exposure than community clouds which have less threat exposure than public clouds. • Massive public clouds may be more cost effective than large community clouds which may be more cost effective than small private clouds. • “Doesn’t strong security controls mean that I can adopt the most cost effective approach?”

  12. Effects of Cloud Computing • Small enterprises use public SaaS and public clouds and minimize growth of data centers • Large enterprise data centers may evolve to act as private clouds • Large enterprises may use hybrid cloud infrastructure software to leverage both internal and public clouds • Public clouds may adopt standards in order to run workloads from competing hybrid cloud infrastructures

  13. Cloud Computing is Transformation for IT • Adoption of the cloud is accelerating. • Deliver innovation and business priorities. • IT transformation: Org, Architecture, Operations. • Leverage and Advantage

  15. Can we use it for our Benefit?

  16. Introducing Google Chromium Here are some revelations on Google Chrome OS • Its an open source, lightweight operating system targeted at net books • Later this year its code will be  open-source • By the second half of 2010 it will be available bundled with net books • Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS • OS to be built in a way to protect it from viruses, malware and security updates • Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips • Google Chrome OS is a new project, separate from Android

  17. Some free MAGIC POCKETS.. • 1. www.adrive.com • 50 GB of web space to store your data. • just create your space(id). • Download/upload/sharing can be done. • ZOHO apps ,allow your to modify file over network without downloading it.

  18. 2. windowslive.com/online/skydrive • 25 GB of free space for data storage. • Create your id/space. • Create folder as on your pc. • Drag and drop interface. • You can access with your hotmail id.

  19. 3.www.nivio.com • Famous by name of n-drive. • 10 GB free space for data storage. • Install pc application to your computer. • Create folder in that application area and add your favorite files. • You can also create your public folder to share over network.

  20. 4.www.opendrive.com • 5 GB free space for data storage. • Home plan is free. • Max use of 1GB /day is allowed • 200KBPS excellent downloading & uploading speed on standard broadband connection.

  21. 5.www.dropbox.com • 2 GB of free user space. • Just download & install application to your pc or mobile. • BlackBerry , i-Phone , Android supported.
