  1. London Waterloo Station London Waterloo Station promotes several opportunities to undertake numeracy activities based on estimation, money, time, measuring and data handling. This maths trial is aimed at Key Stage 2 children and the activities can be differentiated to suit different age groups.   2. Money • It costs a passenger £2.30 to travel from London Waterloo to Kingston. How much would it cost the passenger to travel from London Waterloo to Kingston for 4 days? • 2. It costs a passenger £139 for unlimited monthly travel. How • much would they spend on travel for the whole year? • 3. It is £2.50 to buy a sausage roll at the Pasty Shop. Search the • other pastry shops at London Waterloo to find out if this is the • cheapest option. I want to buy 7 sausage rolls. How much • money will I need?

  3. Time • Your train leaves London Waterloo at 08:12 and arrives at Shepperton at 09:23. How long is your journey? • You start work at 9am in Earlsfield. Your workplace is a 7 minute walk from Earsfield train station. Which train would you need to catch to get to work on time?

  4. Estimation • Estimate how many seats are on this carriage. Now measure to see if you were accurate. • Estimate how many seats are on the whole train. Now use previous results to accurately calculate how many seats are on the entire train.

  5. Data Handling • Complete a tally chart based on the different types of shops that are available at London Waterloo train station. • Create a bar chart based on your tally information that you have already collected. • Make up and answer questions based on the bar chart you have created.

  7. Measurements • Calculate the distance from London Waterloo to Sutton/ Hampton Court/ Portsmouth/ Strawberry Hill etc. using a map and plotting the points. • Calculate using an appropriate measure, how far it is from one end of the station to the other.
