Understand that . . . • God is not a means to an end – He IS the Means & the End • When we worship idols, we are in part doing what we are supposed to be doing, only we are not doing it the way & to Whom we are supposed to be doing it • God is NOT a Holy God; a Just God; a Loving God . . . He IS Holiness – He IS Justice – He IS Love
God is the source the substance the satisfaction
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10
why am I here? what am I supposed to do? who am I? should I go? should I stay? what should I do? who should I be with? what is the cost? will I suffer? why am I suffering? when will I stop suffering? why don’t others suffer the way I do? am I my own? why should I care? can I really deny myself? what is so bad about getting whatever I want? what do I want? what is the purpose? What is the end of it all? What is the purpose of man?
The Big Picture – Be Wise • The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and the Knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Proverbs 9:10) • Fear God and keep His commandments (Ecclesiastes 12:13) • Seek first the Kingdom and all else will be added (Matt. 6:33) • Rejoice in the LORD always (Phil. 4:4) • “If you don’t know God, you can’t know anything properly”
Don’t just mimic Godly things; be a Godly person . . . Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4)
God’s will is for you to be* • Saved (Eph. 1:5) • Sanctified (1 Thess 4:3) • Submissive (Romans 12:2) • Spirit-Filled (Romans 8:26-27) • Suffering (1 Peter 4:19) • Satisfied (1 Thess. 5:18) • This is godliness . . . and that is great gain • 1 Tim 6:6
Let’s heat the Noodle a bit . . . The “determined will of God” verses the “desired will of God” Decree verses doing Imperatives in the Text imply wishes for God and volition for man Wait, are the open theists right?!? NO Its complex
