  1. Preliminary Design Review Team Digiceipt October 21, 2015

  2. Digiceipt Team Members George Papageorgiou EE Tyler Adams CSE Enoc Flores EE Edward Townsend EE

  3. Current Receipt System • Given a paper receipt after every purchase • Receipt can be very long even if you buy one item • Hassle to keep track of • Waste of paper and ink

  4. How significant is the Problem? • Environmental cost per year • 250,000,000 gallons of oil • 10,000,000 trees • 1,000,000,000 gal. of water • 1,500,000,000 lbs of waste • Receipts can cost ~1c per print * According to study done by Clinton Global Initiative University (2013)

  5. Our Solution: Digiceipt • A system which automatically generates and transfers your receipts through an NFC transceiver at a point-of-sale to a mobile application • One which easily keeps track of digital receipts for storage and retrieval in a cloud database

  6. Design Alternatives Data Transfer Alternatives Bluetooth QR Code Email Platform Alternatives

  7. Effect of Individuals • More convenient • Easier to manage • Budgeting • Finance history • Less waste • More wallet space • Speeds up checkout lines • Security and Safety • Thermal receipts • BPA/BPS • Fade over time

  8. Requirements • NFC hardware interfaces (between devices) • Item scanning / inputs • Easy to use, quick, and secure • Data needs to remain private • Mobile application (Android) • Cloud storage capabilities

  9. Requirements Analysis: Inputs & Outputs Inputs Outputs • Reduced Paper & Ink Costs • Retrievable, Digital Receipts • Happy Customers • Labor for PoS • Register Data

  10. Block Diagram Display -Display flow of information Cloud -Data storage Inputs - Product data - USB Barcode Scanner Computer - USB scanner interface -Display interface -NCF interface Mobile Phone - NFC transceiver - Android App NFC Transceiver -Transmits wireless data

  11. Inputs • Takes in purchase data from Point of Sale with barcode scanner • Scanner will be compatible through USB connection • Sends data to the computer to be transmitted via NFC transceiver

  12. Computer (Raspberry Pi) • Raspberry Pi computer with 3 interfaces • Interface to receive data from the scanner • Interface to communicate with NFC transceiver • Interface to communicate with display monitor

  13. Near Field Communication (NFC) Transceiver • Transmits and receives data • Syncs only to android App • Displays items being purchased • Utilizes Raspberry Pi

  14. Android App • Interface connecting consumer and receipts • Must sync with NFC transceiver at point of sale to transfer data • Enables permanent, secure receipt data storage in a cloud database • Must be fast and easy to use

  15. Proposed MDR Deliverables • Scanner interfaces with Raspberry Pi in a way that raw data is transmitted • Raspberry Pi is able to transmit the raw data to NFC transceiver • Transceiver can communicate with Android app and sends raw data via NFC • Android app receives raw data and displays it
