Introduction Ever want to see the world? Here’s your chance: Travel Inc. is looking to attract young adults to use their company when travelling. They have chosen you to be one of their spokespeople. Where will you go? Your journey begins now!
Task Travel Inc. has selected you to visit different areas of the globe. They are looking for the best places to visit and are asking for your help. Your job is to search, evaluate, and plan a 10-day trip to one continent (excluding Antarctica). You will create a travel brochure to hand out to prospective travelers. Your brochure will be interesting, well-written, and include photos of your travels. You will also keep a journal of your daily activities and expenses. This is an individual activity. Good luck and safe traveling!
Process Step 1: You will chose which continent you would like to visit. (Remember, you cannot visit Antarctica!) Here are a few sites to help you decide: http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/continents.htm http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/places/continents/index.html Once you have chosen a continent, please submit it to me on a sheet of paper with your name!
Process • Step 2: Begin researching the countries within your continent. You must choose at least 2 countries to visit! The websites provided on the previous slide offer great links to different countries located within each continent. • Step 3: After choosing your continent and countries, you can begin your journey. Use the resources page on the next slide to do your research. Here are your guidelines: • Activities: • You must visit at least 1 place within the country each day. Places can be historical monuments, museums, tours of the city, or fun activities that you would enjoy.
Process • Expenses: • You have $5,000 to spend. This includes flight, hotels, food, and entrance into the places you visit. You must keep a record of all expenses. You can use Microsoft Excel to create a spreadsheet. • Photos: • You must include photos of the places you visit to include in your brochure and journal. • Journal: • Keep a journal of your daily activities. Talk about the places you visit, the food you eat, the places to sleep. Reflect on your day. • Works Cited: • Keep track of all pages you use. All citations must be in MLA format.

Process Step 4: Once you are done your research, begin working on your journal entries. Be sure to include what you did that day, what you ate, where you slept. Think about vacations you have gone on or that you would like to go on. What made them special? How did the places you visited make you feel? After completing your entries, insert some pictures. Once completed, print out a copy for yourself and for me. Turn in your copy to me when you are ready. Step 5: Create your travel brochure. There are templates available in Microsoft Office. Be sure to highlight memorable moments, why someone should visit certain attractions, include photos, and cite your sources. A Works Cited page must be turned in with the brochure. Step 6: Turn in your expenses sheet. Let’s see how you did with your money! Step 7: RELAX!
Evaluation • This project will consist of 300 points toward your semester grade. The point allocation is as follows: • 125 Points • Journal Entries: 1 entry per day, includes activities, hotel, and restaurants, reflection on day, photos of the places visited • 75 Points • Brochure: Highlights key attractions, includes photos, cites sources • 50 Points • Expenses Sheet: Stayed on budget, logged all expenses • 25 Points • Works Cited: MLA format • 25 Points • Participation, creativity, attendance
Conclusion This activity allowed you to “visit” various places across the globe. It has allowed you to improve on your research, writing, math, and social studies skills. It also gave you a chance to explore places somewhere outside your hometown. Along the way, you learned how to plan a vacation. From booking flights and hotels, choosing the best restaurants, planning activities, keeping tracks of expenses, and documenting your experiences, you now have the ability to plan a real trip. Congratulations! You have completed your activity. You may now go home and catch on some much needed sleep after such a long journey!
