Dolphins are unique Since ever, dolphins have been fantastic creatures, creating a friendly relationship in people´s minds. Scientists have been trying to unveil these creatures misteries for a long time, which involve complex communication and a higher level of intelligence when compared with the one of our ancestrals – the primates Dolphins are considered aquatic mammals, and are members of the Delphinidae family. Dolphins are able to produce very distinct vocal sounds. These sounds are also known as whistles, and can be heard on frequencies starting from 5 and up to 20KHz.
Curiosities The adult human brain weights around 1.450 grams. A dolphin´s brain weights around 1.700 grams (HEAVIER!!!). Dolphins can live between 20 and 80 years. They feed on a large variety of fish, squids and crustaceans. Dolphins never sleep, as they need to surface from time to time in order to breathe, even during night. Only half of their brain falls asleep, while the other half remains alert. We can find around 37 different dolphin species in the world.

Dolphins & Portugal Dolphins have lived in the Portuguese maritime coast for a long time, and they can still be seen quite often nowadays, swimming next to the coast or even in some rivers estuaries. Dolphins & Portugal The most common dolphin species in this place is the “roaz corvineiro”, a long and robust species with a melon shaped nose. They can measure up to 4 meters and weight 350Kg. Taking all of this into consideration, and that dolphins are used to human presence in this place, this was the perfect spot to create a dolphins therapy center in Portugal. Roaz - Corvineiro
Therapy center – method description In the Portuguese center, dolphins therapy is used together with another type of treatment: the Craniosacral therapy (also called CST). CST is an alternative medicine therapy used by osteopaths, massage therapists, naturopaths, and chiropractors, and consists in gentle and specific movements and massages on the skull and spine of the patient. Some therapy results • Unfortunately I was not able to find any testimonials regarding treatments made in the Portuguese dolphins therapy center. Despite this, there are plenty reported situations where patients: • Improved their personality, becoming more calmer and patient; • Started performing simple actions as eating a whole apple, which was not occuring in the past; • Started walking on their own; • Became more alert, understanding instructions and carrying them out
