Employer Debriefing June 4, 2008
Recruiting Functions • September 17, 2008 – Accounting Night • Free agents, future interns • September 2008 – Wrap up intern interviews • October 2008 – Interview free agents • Late November 2008 – Intermediate event • February 2009 – Lubar Career Fair • April 2009 – Intermediate event • April 2009 – Internship interviews
Student Action Points • Sophomore • Fall – Intro; Spring – Intermediate (event) • Junior • Advanced, Tax 1, Systems • Spring – intern interviews for Sp/Summer 2010, (Fall 2011 start) • Senior • Auditing in Fall • Intern in Spring or Summer • Graduate School • Fall free agent interviews (critical for MS-A’s) • Built in CPA Review (suggest free second summer)
Possible New Beta Plan • Current program is broken • Pledge while in Intermediate • Members would provide assistance to Intermediate students • Would be member when interviewing for internship • Provide assistance to Not for Profit organizations (count as experience?)
Internship Comments • Prefer mix of tax and audit • Really enjoy it and feel like team member • Some indications of poor management of their assignments • Need for uniformity on extending offers to interns • Need clarity on part time after internship • Can be limited exposure to in-charges • Need to ask efficient questions – we will work on that
Open Issues • Will summer internships be more common (and valuable)? • Would there ever be fall internships? • Is there a solution to the tax/audit choice? • Does spring 2009 interview for spring or summer 2010 really work for everyone? • What is the experience expectation for interns (Juniors) • Are there opportunities for “free agents”?
