Slides 2 – 6 Recap from the previous lesson Slide 7 – 9 Introduce what analysis is / sentence starters Slide 10 – Group Activity This lesson gets the students to analyse a piece of information on the restaurant industry. Get the students to work in pairs and use the paper resources “UK Restaurant Industry” located in the Welsh Bacc office (week 3 filing tray). There are 2 versions to differentiate for the different abilities within your class. Please get enough to share 1 between 2 The aim of this activity is to help understand to how to pick out the key points from information / websites that they will be using in their research Once they have done this activity – ask students to continue to work through the booklet they are completing from last week – but demonstrate to them the speech bubbles to help set out their paragraphs Teacher ONLY slide

  4. RECAP: What is research and why do we do it? What? Research can be information in many different forms. Facts, figures, maps, quotes, images etc Why? To get answers to questions To increase our understanding To learn more about something

  6. Whether you have collected the information yourself in a survey ... Your research should always have these qualities RURU ...or whether it’s information that already exists on the Internet Checking for RURU will save you time later

  7. Time to analyse By now, you should have some general reading to do – you have collected some information on the industry you are researching as a possible career. Now we have to understand what this information says and how it can support your project

Pair activity • Jessica Spencer is considering a career in the restaurant industry. • She has decided to open a restaurant in the local area but she doesn't know much about the industry. • From the research she has found, she would like your help to understand what is happening in the industry now for example what are the current trends. • TASK: Using the news article given, complete questions A – C on the worksheet to help analyse what is going on. • You will have 15 minutes to complete this activity and prepare to present back what you have analysed • https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/uk-restaurant-industry-000000282.html

  10. Continue with the Secondary Research Activity For Lessons 3 – 5: Continue to complete your Skill Building- Secondary Research work booklets using your analysis skills you have developed. Don’t forget to complete the speech bubbles to help you write out your paragraph

Continue with the Secondary Research Activity • For Lessons 3 – 5: • Continue to complete your Skill Building- Secondary Research • work booklets using your analysis skills you have developed. • Here are some ideas.... • Recent industry news • Statistics – such as industry turnover (how much the industry is making) • Which jobs require qualifications and why • Information about the different types of roles • How can you progress in the industry? • Any trends happening within the industry that could help with your career? • The negative aspects of the industry • Remember to pick out the key points – what do they mean to you and this project.

  13. Homework – FOR NEXT LESSON • Find a piece of secondary research that that you can use to complete your RURU booklets. • For an example: • Print a news article / industry news
