What is the meaning of “death”? A. “Separation.” It has various uses but its basic meaning is “separation.” Lk. 15:32.

Gén. 35:18 “cuando su alma partía, pues murió…” El alma es el “hombre interior” que no muere (2 Cor. 4:16). • B. Physical death: separation of the soul from the body. Gen. 35:18, “as her soul was departing (for she died)…” The soul is the “inner man” that does not die (2 Cor. 4:16).

Dicen que el “alma” es la vida misma y que el “espíritu” es el aliento y, por eso, que al morir el hombre deja de existir. • The materialists (Adventists, Watchtower) deny this. They say that the “soul” is life itself and that the “spirit” is the breath and, therefore, when one dies he ceases to exist.

Hades -- estado invisible don-de va el alma cuando se separa del cuerpo. • C. Acts 2:27, “For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” Hades -- unseen state where the soul goes when it separates from the body.

Where does the unfaithful man go when he dies? A. Luke 16:23, the rich man went to hades when he died. “And being in torments in Hades…”

Pero aunque fuera, parábolas no son fábulas; se basan en la realidad. • Some say that it’s a parable but there are no proper names like Lazarus en parables. But even if it were, parables are not fables but are based on reality.

La palabra “infierno” es tartaro… • B. 2 Pet. 2:4, “God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell… to be reserved for judgment.” The word “hell” is tartaro…

Algunos concluyen de esto que durante el tiempo que Cristo estaba en el hades (paraíso) El predicó a los que vivieron en los días de Noé pero ¿es lo que Pedro dice? • B. Some conclude from this that during the time Christ was in hades (paradise) He preached to those who lived in the days of Noah, but is that what Peter says?

Pero el sufrimiento en el infierno no tiene fin. • D. The most horrible pains and sufferings of this world, although they last for many years come to an end. But the suffering in hell has no end. It never ends.

Luc. 16:24, “gritando, dijo… que moje la punta de su dedo en agua y refresque mi lengua, pues estoy en agonía en esta llama." Apoc. 14:11. • E. There will be no relief. Lk. 16:24, “dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.” Rev. 14:11, “they have no rest.”

Algunos dicen, “si mis seres amados se perdieron yo voy con ellos”, pero lea Luc. 16:28, “tengo cinco hermanos… que no venga también a este lugar de tormento”. • F. Some say, “Well, if my loved ones were lost I will go where they are,” but read Luke 16:28, “I have five brothers… warn them lest they also come to this place of torment.”

Lugar de fuego donde van los que “mueren en gracia” pero necesitan purificarse (expiar sus pecados) para alcanzar la gloria. • VI. Does “purgatory” exist? A. The place of fire where those who “die in grace” go who need to purify (expiate) themselves in order to reach the state of glory.

La sangre de Cristo es la única cosa que limpia de pecado. • B. But there is no text at all that teaches that sins can be purified or expiated by fire. The blood of Jesus is the only thing that cleanses from sin.

Are the dead conscious? A. Some teach that when in death the soul of the human being “sleeps,” that he’s unconscious. (This is what they want).
