Brief History • Canada has been inhibited with Native Americans for the last 10,000 years • Permanent visits came in the 16th and 17th century, as the French settled there • They traded much of their lands with the British • After the American Revolution, many British Loyalists settled in Canada • Became a self-governing country on July 1, 1867.

Geography • Much of Canada's consists of rolling hills with rock outcrops because the Canadian Shield • Covers almost half the country • The southern portion of the Shield is covered with forests • The northern parts are tundra • Due to temperature • The west are the central plains or prairies • Further west is the Canadian Cordillera stretching from the Yukon Territory into British Columbia and Alberta.
