  1. Theory of Knowledge

  2. The Boring Stuff Sign up for Edmodo Check out the Weebly at http://vsahoefnagels.weebly.com

  3. What the &*$% is this class about? Get on the Padlet and let me know what you think TOK is all about http://padlet.com/wall/yuk051jwfx

  4. The Important Questions What is knowledge? When is (insert Way Of Knowing) helpful in creating knowledge? When should we be cautious in using (insert WOK) in creating knowledge? How reliable is (insert Area of Knowledge) in creating knowledge? When should we cautious/skeptical of (insert AOK) in the creation of Knowledge? How does (insert AOK) compare and contrast to (insert AOK) in regards to scope/methodology/terminology/concepts/historical development? What do all of these questions have in common?

  5. The Crux of It • TOK is about figuring out how we get to our conclusions NOT the conclusion itself • Awareness of how you, and people, make their decisions • Example • Should the teacher have sworn at the police officer? • TOK Questions • What WOK’s have I used to come to that conclusion? • How do you know that you are right? • Is the WOK you used to come to the conclusion reliable? • Why do I think this? • What has led me to that conclusion? • How am I influenced by my family and friends? • What counts as evidence to support this? • How can we be sure?

  6. Your Turn • Figure out what you think • Come up with a TOK question that asks about how you arrived at that conclusion • Should abortion be allowed? • Should homosexuals be allowed to marry? • Are helpers treated fairly in Hong Kong? • Should the dock workers in Hong Kong be allowed to strike? • Should Hong Kong celebrate the anniversary of Tiananmen square?

  7. How it is going to work The first unit will be an introduction to the WOK The rest of the units will be examining the AOK through the WOK

  8. Exit Cards • The purpose • Reflection what you learn • Analyze what you learn • Understand what you learn • It is absolutely mandatory
