Physical Health • Way parts and systems in your body work together • Body has the ability to cope with stresses • Having strength and energy to pursue challenges • To gain and maintain • Must have.. • Proper nutrition • Adequate sleep • Participate regularly in physical activity • Practice good hygiene • Staying away from harmful substances such as, tobacco, alcohol and other drugs
Mental and Emotional Health Mental health • Includes feelings about yourself • How well you relate to others • How well the demands of daily life are met • Develops thinking skills Emotional Health • In touch with feelings and expresses them in an appropriate manner • Deals with problems without being overwhelmed
Social Health • How well an individual gets along with others • Involves communicating and showing respect and care for yourself and others
Your Health Triangle Activity.. • Draw a triangle • Label the 3 corners with the 3 aspects of health • Fill in aspects from your own life • Is your triangle balanced • What could you do to better balance it?
The Health Continuum • Wellness- an overall state of well-being, or total health. • At any point your body can take on changes • Page 7
Lifestyle Factors • Personal behaviors and habits related to the way a person lives, that help determine his or her level of health • 7-8 hours of sleep • Eat nutritious foods • Refrain from tobacco products • Eat breakfast daily • Work out at least 3 times a week • Do not use alcohol or other drugs • Maintain recommended weight
Other vocab.. • Prevention- practicing healthy habits to keep a person well and free from disease and other ailments • Health Education-is the providing of accurate health information in such a way as to influence people to change attitudes so that they take positive action about their health
