IzVidz Project My project is to develop a safe and suitable program that will provide Deaf Children and those with other disabilities the opportunity to learn important Life Skills through riding and learning horsemanship. Riding for the disabled has proven to be a valuable tool to increase self-esteem and self-confidence in young men and women with disabilities however it has remained a very basic walk and lead program. I have proven that with some suitable and well thought out training by my mentor, Michael Laffan, that I am now able to complete high skill level horsemanship in the cutting area of cattle husbandry and I wish to make this opportunity available to others through setting up my small business of IzVidz in conjunction with Learn to Ride ~ Ride to Learn.
Fun at Home I have always enjoyed being with horses, my first pony was a miniature horse named Po, in 2008 I showed him at the Brisbane Show, we came 2nd. My first pony Po
Local Shows I started attending and competing at local shows mostly with Miniature Horses First Show Toogoolawah 2006
Tamworth Nationals 2013 I competed at the Tamworth Miniature Horse Nationals last year and did very well with Vizzi, a horse given to me by ShangrilaMinature Horse Stud in Victoria. I won Reserve Champion in the Youth section.
Riding for Disabled Association May 2013 McIntyre Center I started riding with RDA when I was in Primary School on the Sunshine Coast. Later rode at the McIntyre Center RDA in 2013.
Sharing My friend Jordan who has a cochlear implant came and spent a weekend with me. We helped Michael with the horses. It was the first time Jordan had been close to and patted a horse. Jordan and I have been buddies since we were 3 years old.
Community This was the third year I have ridden in the local Anzac parade. Michael helped me practice for it and use his horse. I was able to carry the Australian Flag.
Learning My mentor Michael, is always with me and the horses teaching me many skills.
Opportunities This year Michael took me to a clinic with Guy McLean who is an international horse trainer and poet.
IzVidz - Project My project is to demonstrate to others with hearing impairment, communication problems and any disability that everyone has the ability to do their best and learn. I love horses and everything to do with them, learning through riding I have gone from being led around by support people at Riding for Disabled to the beginnings of my dream of competing in Cutting horse competitions. I love taking videos and want to demonstrate and show others everything from basics on the ground with horses, learning from visuals I have communication difficulties so visuals always help me. By taking videos we can sit back later and review lessons. This will hopefully support people and give them confidence while having fun and gaining friendship. I hope to share with others the pleasure and joy of achieving/competing , caring for and being around horses.
