  2. Did you know? • That 1 in every 3 high school students drop out. • For every 15 kids 5 of them drop out Graduate!!! Dropout!!!

  3. Money Made • High school graduates make on average $9,245 more per year that drop outs • In 50 years that’s $462,250 Money that you could make!!! Instead its all thrown away!!

  4. Factors affecting drop outs • School is unfavorable • Discipline is loose • Drugs and Alcohol • Academically inferior • Family conflict • Feel socially incompetent

  5. Jail • It is estimated that 45% of the students who drop out of school will go to jail • That’s almost half! • In 1997 a study found that 47% of drug dealers in prison were high school dropouts

  6. In those Jails… • A study in 2003 showed: • 75% of state inmates were high school dropouts • 60% of federal inmates were high school dropouts • 70% of all inmates were high school dropouts

  7. Percent of Out-of-School 16-24 Year Olds Who Worked At Some Point in 2007 andTheir 2007 Mean Annual Earnings

  8. What skills do they have? • 70 percent of all high school dropouts in jail have an equivalent of a 4th grade reading level These books have a 4th grade reading level

  9. What have we learned? • Dropping out does not make life any easier…. It only becomes harder • It increases your chances of winding up in jail • Its not fun!!! • You wont make the money you could be making!!! • So stay in school
