  4. Split quote- is a quote that is split by having a speaker tag in the middle of the quote Example: “Spaying and neutering,” explained the vet, “help curb pet overpopulation.” Non Example: The vet said, “Make sure your dog is well fed.”

  5. Why is it important to understand Split Quotes? It helps us to become better writers and readers

  6. Step 1 : Indentify the speaker tag Step 2: Identify the exact words of the speaker and place quotations around the exact words. Step 3. Place commas after the first part of the quote and after the speaker tag Step 4.
