Journal Entry 1 Name: Ms. Shannon Date: 9-12-13 Title of Book: The Giver In the section I read, there was a ceremony being held to announce the jobs of the kids in the community. In this community, kids are given a specific job when they are eleven. As the announcer was calling the names of the students, he skipped over Jonas’ name. Jonas was extremely nervous. Was there a mistake? He really didn’t know what to think. After they announcer went through all the names, he then called Jonas. Jonas was relieved, but confused. The announcer then told Jonas that his job would be “The Giver.” This is a very admirable job. However, Jonas still didn’t really know what “The Giver” was. Question: I am also curious as to what it means to be “The Giver.” This is not a job that I have ever heard of.
