CTC Effects on Initiation of Problem Behaviors Grade 8 youth from CTC communities were: 33% less likely to start smoking cigarettes 32% less likely to start drinking 25% less likely to start engaging indelinquent behavior …than Grade 8 youth from control communities in a panel followed from Grade 5. 2

Sustained Effects of CTC after Five Years Compared to control communities, 10th graders in the panel from CTC communities showed: • Less rapidly increasing risk since grade 5, • Lower mean levels of targeted risk, • Lower incidence of delinquent behavior, alcoholuse, and cigarette use, • Lower prevalence of past-month cigarette use, • Lower prevalence of past-year delinquency, • Lower prevalence of past-year violence than their 10th grade counterparts from control communities.
