ENERGY EFFICIENCY LIGHT BULB INDUCTION MOTOR EVOLUTION REVOLUTION
Efficiency = Output = Input – Loss Input Input Water-Energy Nexus: Phase I – Reduce 10% in Losses Phase II – Reduce 30% in Losses Reduction greater than or equal to 30% should result in incentives to Water IOU’s while reduction less than 30% should result in penalties from the Water IOU’s Defining Loss
Step I • 300hp motor is running at full speed
OPERATIONAL ENERGY EFFICIENCYNovember 18, 2008 data MOTOR SIZE 300 hp = 223.8 kW Efficiency Loss • Step I – System with no VFD & Program 39.80% 134.73 kW’s • Step II – System with VFD & No Program 49.00% 114.14 kW’s • Step IIA – System with VFD & with Program 57.60% 94.89 kW’s Reduction in Loss39.84 kW’s KWH’S savings per year (Estimated) 348,966.86 kWh’s Percentage improvement 44.72%
kW Demand Reduction & kWh Energy Savings February 2, 2009 10:00 to 10:59 AM 35.671 kW Reduction = 891 – Forty-Watt Light Bulbs
Conclusions • Real – Reflect actual improvements • Additional – In addition to existing programs • Quantifiable – Reliably measured – SCADA system • Verifiable – Continuously monitored and verified • Permanent – Irreversible and guaranteed • Enforceable – Backed up by contracts & legal requirements Operational Energy Efficiency Projects can be coordinated with demand response and RPS programs
