  1. Extended Science Vocabulary of the WeekSET #1 • Alloy – • a homogeneous mixture or solid solution of two or more metals, or a metal and a nonmetal • With aluminum-alloy poles, the tent is secure and can withstand powerful winds.   • Coagulate – • to change from a fluid into a thickened mass;  curdle; congeal • Human blood is thicker than water and begins to coagulate as soon as it's  exposed to air.

  2. Extended Science Vocabulary of the WeekSET #2 • Labile – • prone to change; unstable • A thermally labile compound is a compound that breaks down when exposed to high temperatures.   • Allotrope – • one of two or more forms of an element • Graphite and diamond are allotropes of carbon.

Extended Science Vocabulary of the WeekSET #3 • Hygroscopic – • Absorbing or attracting moisture from the air. • Sodium hydroxide pellets are so hygroscopic that they dissolve in the water they absorb from the air.  • Chemiluminescence – • the phenomenon in which a chemical reaction  emits light without increasing its temperature. • The visible light created by a glow stick is caused by chemiluminescence.
