Verbs are words that represent actions or connect a subject to a word describing the subject. • Capitulate, to surrender • Eulogize, to praise highly
Adjectives describe people, places, and things • Arcane, mysterious • Benevolent, kind-hearted • Ethereal, heavenly • Salubrious, heathly • Wanton, lustful
Arcane – adj. • Secret; mysterious; understood by only a few • Ex. Andrea couldn’t understand Mr. Berra’s lectures because of all the arcane words and phrases he used.
Benevolent • Kindhearted; good-natured; generous • Ex. The girl’s benevolent grandparents helped her to save for her college education.
Capitulate, verb • Surrender; yield • Ex. During the conquest in 1066, the Anglo-Saxons were forced to capitulate to the Normans.
Consonance, noun • a blending of sounds or opinions; agreement • Ex. The symphony concert was a wonderful consonance of exciting sounds.
Ethereal, adjective • Heavenly; fine; delicately beautiful • Ex. I watched as the ethereal girl studied her math in seminar, and I fell deeply in love.

Vestige, noun • Something left behind; a visible trace or evidence of something that has vanished • Some people feel that bell bottoms are a vestige from the seventies, but others still adore them.
Wanton, adjective • Excessive; uncontrolled; lustful • Ex. One of the reasons we were so fascinated with the story of King Arthur is Lancelot’s wanton passes at Guinevere.
