How Turtles Came to Live in Shells He saw a tiny shell and decided to not to take any chances and hide under it. Turtles once lived without shells. But one day the king turtle saw a scary hippopotamus! Unfortunately he got stuck and was forced to live in a shell forever. As the king, all of the other baby turtles followed him and lived in shells as well.
