PSST! Here is a hint….. • When writing the newspaper article, it should be written in paragraph form. • Like all news pieces, answer the who, whatwhen, where, why and how of the event. Also, draw the reader into the article immediately. • The who?, what?, when?, where?, why? and how? are the concrete details of the piece. Return to the short story for facts and quotes to answer these questions.
Day 2 RevisionCheck the paper for any of the linking verbs listed below. Circle any that are present. • Am, Is, Are, Was, Were • Be, Being, Been • Do, Does, Did • Have, Had, Has • Must, May, Might • Could, Should, Would • Can, Will, Ought, Shall
Day #2 Revision and Editing Handout 1. Skip every other line. Don’t write on the back. 2. Give the article a catchy title. 3. Create a byline under title with a newspaper job title (in addition to MLA) • ex: By John Smith- World Staff Reporter 4. Begin the article with an attention grabber. It should be the most shocking detail. 5. Improve word choice by using 6 words from the bank. (see to the right) 6. It must be exactly121 words long. 7. Eliminate linking verbs by half.
