  2. #1 • UN recognizes that DM is a real threat for the health of the population; it is the first non communicable disease with has an impact and which is treated along in the same manner as a communicable one (like TB, HIV/AIDS, etc.) - this gives weight to the activities of all our member associations and it should bring a higher priority to the diabetes related programs;

  3. #2 • the recognition of the 14 of November as a WDD acknowledged not only by the interested parties (IDF) but by all the UN members, will offer a chance to go public each an every year. It legitimates public appearances, more free printed and media time; the theme for 2007 and 2008 will be “Children and youth with diabetes”;

  4. #3 • the UNR recognizes the importance of public awareness, prevention and care and it allows individual organizations to claim UN support for their initiatives; it stresses the importance of access to care, treatment and health care education: bringing once more these issues to the top of the agendas;

  5. #4 • it encourages member states to develop national policies for prevention, treatment and care; this should support the development and implementation of the national diabetes strategies;
