STEEL: THE MAIN CHALLENGES Improvement of production processes New products to remain competitive to satisfy customers’ new requirements to face and to reduce the environmental problem
STEEL AND YOUNG PEOPLE: A NEED TO REPLACE AN APPARENT “POOR IMAGE” • Thesteel sector is complex and technologically demanding: • To communicate the entire range of possibilities technology can offer • To encourage young people to embark on a rewarding career in the steel industry
STEEL: THE NEED FOR HIGHLY QUALIFIED PEOPLE To innovate current practices through the best available technologies To deal with different and complex technologies Engineers’ core competencies: To develop research projects To be part of a multinational network
STEEL AND UNIVERSITY: A RELATIONSHIP TO BE STRENGTHENED More academic courses related to the steel sector with a higher level of specialization A high level of specialized experts among young graduates
STEEL AND UNIVERSITY: A NEW AND STRONG ROLE FOR THE STEEL INDUSTRY The new way is a common participation to: • research projects • development of doctoral thesis related to steel sector • establishing a common ground for post-graduate education

RIVA GROUP “STEEL SCHOOL” The school mission is to develop: Technical Seminars and Tutorials Courses on well defined specific subjects Post graduate courses The school started to operate in November 2006 launching the first post-graduate Master Course in steel making
RIVA GROUP “STEEL SCHOOL” - THE FIRST MASTER COURSE - Organizers:Riva Group together with Italian academic institutions Participants: Post-graduate young engineers and chemists Teachers / lecturers:University professors,Riva Group technicians, external consultants and Institutions Objective: to create the strategic human resource to move into the future
RIVA GROUP “STEEL SCHOOL” - THE FIRST MASTER COURSE - THE COURSE IS BEING ATTENDED BY 22 GRADUATED STUDENTS: • 8 RIVA Group’s employees • 13 newly recruited with special post-graduate educational-work contracts • 1 from an Engineering Company
