  3. Provincial Stage Capture and Pathology Reporting Operations goals centred on providing a rich dataset of new cancer information for Ontario • Improve the quality and completeness of cancer stage data collection and cancer pathology reporting through implementation of common data and reporting standards and innovative new e-Tools Stage-Path Operations Goals: • Standardize cancer pathology with synoptic reporting in discrete data fields to achieve • 90% completeness based on College of American Pathologists (CAP) cancer checklists • Support achievement of population-based staging in Ontario by leveraging synoptic pathology reporting to ensure • 90% of all new cases with stage data based on the Collaborative Staging (CS) minimum data set 3

  4. Province-wide transformation to standardize cancer pathology reports based on common standards achieved, with PLMP and RVP leadership and support Basic Cutting Edge Proportion of Ontario hospitals reporting cancer pathology to CCO, by level of standardization from narrative to synoptic % Ontario HospitalsFeb 2012 97% with discrete synoptic reporting % Ontario Hospitals May 2012 Data Source: CCO ePath; As of May 30, 2012.

  5. CCO’s e-Path Solution (using eMaRC Plus) • ePath Solution Data Flow • Non-eMaRC (custom) Components • Synoptic Data Quality Analytics

  6. New ePath system implemented with all Ontario labs using CDC “freeware” developed through a unique collaboration with CCO eMaRC™ eMaRC developed to: Automate Path Report Filtering with advanced Natural Language Processing to identify cancer vs non-cancer reports Path Report Coding (assign ICD-O) • automated for synoptic reports (using eRE) • manual process for narrative reports Pathology Report Reconciliation Amendment/Addendum/Consult Potential to also use eMaRC beyond pathology • CCO developed components: • Path Report HL7 Transmission Tool • Path Report CAP Completeness Validator “Paper” Path Report Import Capability

  7. Interface • Receive electronic Pathology Reports submissions

  8. Manual Entry • Register paper Pathology Reports into eMaRC Plus

  9. CAP eCC Support • CAP eCC XML downloader and Data Quality analyser

  10. Upload to OCR • Upload to EDW for down-stream consumption

  11. CS-Automation • Synoptic Data consumed to derive CS values
