2. آHow I got involved Thimun Qatar is one of the greatest events our school is a part of and the fact that our school hosts it is even bigger and gives more students a chance to be involved in it. Thimun helps a lot with universities and gives a good reputation and I have never been a part of it. My friend Ali Al-Misned convinced me into being a part of it, since I have never been in MUN or Thimun I chose to do an easy job not like delegates or press, so I chose to be an admin. I wanted to try it out and see how things go in this kind of event that the school holds, and other than that I needed to do a community and service and this was the best one I have seen, since my only job is to help out in the whole event and in the committees

3. What is THIMUN? Thimun is quite similar to Mun that has been held at Qatar Academy in the past few years, but it is more worldwide and much more students, teachers and faculties are involved in the 3 day event. This is the first year for QA to hold the Thimun and it has been set in the Convention Center at Qatar Foundation. Basically Thimun is an event that consist of many topics and issues to debate in, there are more than 10 committees each having its own debate with more than 40 students that represent a country. There are students from many schools in Qatar as well as from other foreign schools around the world. There are 4 main parts for Thimun to be achieved which are the judges in each committee, delegates to debate, press to journalize the event and lastly the admin’s to help out with the even and all of these 4 jobs gave community and service credit.

4. Admins Role As I have said previously this event needs 4 main roles of students for it to run smoothly and successfully. Thimun needs judges, delegates, press and admins. An admin has a pretty big role in this huge event, because first of all this is the first time for Thimun to be held here and there are hundreds of visitors and guests that came and there should be people that are in charge of making the event run like the schedule and smoothly and these people are the admins. There are many types of admins with different jobs such as committee helpers, committee leaders, security and head admins. Committee helpers are the admins which are In charge of helping the delegates if they needed anything or pass messages or secure the doors while the debate is on going, the committee leaders are the admins that are in charge of the committee and the admins working in the committee, security are the admins in charge or everything outside the committees and lastly the admin leaders are the people in charge of all the admins in Thimun. This year I ran as a committee helper.

5. Plan As an admin we needed to attend Thimun for 4 days consecutively, which were Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from the 15-18 of November 2011. All the Thimun contributors went to their normal classes and attended the full day at school in Tuesday but later on the day after school we all needed to go to the convention center from 3-5pm to get the instructions and fix organize the committee rooms. Wednesday we had to start off at 7am in the morning to help out in the committee rooms and at 1pm there was an opening ceremony that we had to help out with organizing the seats for the guests. After that we had to go back to the committee and continue the same work till 6pm where we left and went home. Thursday was quite similar but without the ceremony and Friday was completely the same with a closing ceremony but at night staring at 8pm there was a dinner party for the delegates at the student center and as an admin we needed to help organize the place.

6. The Event Thank god everything went as planned and perfectly in each day of the event. As admins we were in charge of three main parts of the whole event which were the opening ceremony, committee rooms and the closing ceremony and all of these parts needed a huge effort to be done successfully. In the opening and closing ceremony we were in charge of putting people into their seats and guarding the doors, where in the committee rooms we were in charge of passing notes, fetching needed things and also guarding doors. What I have learned during this experience is that no matter how small your role is it would have a huge impact towards the whole event and never think that you wont make an affect to the event, every little thing helps.

7. MYP I think the most suitable MYP attribute I have gained skills in during this event and community and service is the “communicator”, the reason for that being is because I had to communicate a lot with many members of the event, guests and staff for my part as a admin. I had guard the doors and stop anyone from entering during an active session, plan the seating with the guests and go fetch needed things from other committee’s or storage areas. Although there are other MYP attributes that could fill the slot but the most suitable one is communicator.

8. AOI Human Ingenuity would be the most relevant AOI to this particular event, but mostly it relates to the delegates and not as much to the admins. The Reason I have chose this AOI is because Thimun is all about discussions and debates regarding world issues and you need to find suitable solutions for these problems using your human ingenuity, and as an admin being in the same room as the discussion is in progress you learn hence the topics being debated upon. So as you see Human Ingenuity AOI is really hooked with this event .

9. Evaluation Thimun Qatar is the hugest event held at Qatar Academy and possibly held in all of the schools in Qatar where hundreds of students come from all over the world to discuss world issues and problems. Thimun will commence each year in November and is held here at Qatar Academy each year for the next upcoming school years. Each roles in the event where successful and had done their jobs correctly, all roles depend on each other for the event to run smoothly. Each year we have MUN at Qatar Academy but this year we had Thimun and as you know Thimun is much bigger than MUN therefore some improvements need to be done for it to be successful and achievable such as the number of delegates, admins and staff at the event. The increase of these roles helped for the success of the event. Thank god this year we didn’t face any troubles and hopefully if we stay this way we wont face any troubles in the future.
