  1. General Surgery M&M Presentation Template (use your own color scheme)

  2. The “Why” • The goal is to use the M&M powerpoint presentations as a repository of learning/teaching material. • We can’t do it without you.

  3. Some Suggestions • The presentations will be voice-recorded, so please speak clearly. • The presentations will be used by many audiences, so: • avoid mentioning patients’ names during the presentation; • put the patient’s name only on the first page (it will then be blurred out before posting on website); • do not put surgical consultant’s name anywhere in the presentation; • use font size  24; • avoid typographical errors like the plague; and, • don’t cram too much material in each slide (like this one).

  4. Last bit of editorialization • Use the following slides a guide; add and adjust as you deem necessary (but not too much). • And thanks in advance for doing a spotless job…

  5. History of Present Illness/ Past Medical History • This will bring the audience up to speed to the time the patient was seen by your team. • For PMH, please use your judgment (but only if it’s good) and keep it relevant (e.g. childhood tonsillectomy in a multi-trauma patient is perhaps not so relevant).

  6. Physical Examination • Self-explanatory

  7. Clinical Impression After the history & physical exam, what did you think was going on? (no cheating)

  8. Investigations • Laboratory • Imaging • When reporting CT and other radiographic findings, don’t copy radiologist interpretation; rather, highlight the salient points in your own words. • Other

  9. Operative Indications

  10. Operation • Name of operation (exclude surgeon name) • Operative findings • Intraoperative pictures • Histology/final diagnosis (when available)

  11. Postoperative Course

  12. Optional Teaching Slide If you’d like to educate the audience and score points with the faculty, here’s your time to shine…
