1. Be sure it is cited… • Direct quotation or paraphrasing must be cited Quotation: "The yellow star? Oh well, what of it? You don't die of it.“ Example: Elie’s father reacts to the yellow stars by saying, “’The yellow star? Oh well, what of it?’” (Wiesel 9). Example: Elie’s father, for example, is not concerned about the yellow stars, assuring them that one cannot die from it (Wiesel 9). Example: After being informed that they would have to wear the yellow star, Elie’s father remains calm.
2. Be sure it isn’t lonely… • A direct quotation a complete sentence. • A direct quote cannot stand alone as a sentence.
