  3. The Life of Queen Elizabeth I Elizabeth Tudor was born on September 7, 1533 to King Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn. The Roman Catholics of England considered her an illegitimate child.

  4. Life of Queen Elizabeth I cont’d When she was only two years old, Elizabeth’s mother was beheaded. Elizabeth was third in line to the throne and unlikely to succeed. When her father, King Henry VIII, her Roman Catholic half-sister, Mary was crowned Queen of England. Mary was and still is known for her persecution of the Protestants in England. Elizabeth was a protestant and led a rebellion against Mary which nearly ended in Elizabeth’s execution.

  5. Life of Queen Elizabeth I cont’d Elizabeth was crowned Queen of England in 1558, after the death of Mary. She was 25. She never married and never had any children. She reigned as Queen for 44 years until her death on March 24, 1603 at the age of 69.

  9. Conclusion Queen Elizabeth I was a selfless queen. She did not marry because she wanted to protect England from foreign rule and civil war. Her subjects called her ‘The Virgin Queen,’ ‘Good Queen Bess,’ and ‘Gloriana.’ Her reign is considered one of the most glorious in England’s history.
