Women who are poor are more likely to be sexually exploited, trafficked or forced into the sex trade to survive financially. Women at high risk of violence may not have the means to move, leave a job or buy the security systems they need to be safe. Returning to school to upgrade or train and paying for child care may be out of reach financially. Paying for a lawyer to use legal supports may be impossible. At the same time, Legal Aid may also be out of reach—in Ontario a person with as little as $13,000 income may not be eligible for Legal Aid.
