Important information for parents of Class of 2014 students regarding the college application process. Includes deadlines, required forms, and resources.

Students need to hand Registrar list of colleges they will be applying to at least 20 school days prior to application due date. Provide $4.00 for each school they are applying to. For Naviance/Common Application schools, invite your teachers and counselor electronically through the Naviance website. Transcript Request ProcedureFall of Sr. Year
Signed transcript request form Signed waiver of rights form Student Questionnaire Parent Brag Sheet Two teacher input forms (given to each teacher) Four copies of your resume (One for counselor, one for each teacher) All forms are given directly to the Registrar. Nothing is given to the teacher or counselor. Required Forms
Within 20 days of receiving the student’s list of schools, but after the week of October 7th, the Registrar will electronically send the transcripts. Class Rank will be available the week of October 7, 2013. The transcript packet will contain a copy of the student’s transcript of grades, a profile of our school, and a list of courses the student is taking during the 2013-14 school year. The Counselor will electronically submit the Secondary School Report and the Counselor Recommendation through the Naviance website. The Teachers will electronically submit the Teacher Recommendation Form and their letter through the Naviance website. Transcript Request ProcedureFall of Sr. Year

FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid - www.fafsa.ed.gov • First step in the financial aid process. • Use to apply for federal student aid, such as grants, loans and work-study. • Allows students and their parents to borrow money to help pay for college. • Usually have low interest rates and offer attractive repayment terms, benefits and options. • Generally, repayment of a federal loan does not begin until after the student leaves school. • Can be used to pay school expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, books, supplies and transportation.
FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid - www.fafsa.ed.gov • Federal Deadline - Online applications must be submitted by midnight Central Daylight Time, June 30, 2014. Any corrections or updates must be submitted by midnight Central Daylight Time, September 15, 2014. • State Deadline (Maryland) – Must be received by midnight March 1, 2014. • College Deadline - Each college may have a different deadline.

Family Connection River Hill Student Services is pleased to introduce Family Connection from Naviance, a web based service designed especially for students and parents. Family Connection is a comprehensive website that you and your child can use to help in making decisions about courses, colleges, and careers. Family Connection is linked with Naviance Succeed, a service that we use in our office to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that is specific to River Hill. The following slides provide an overview of Family Connection.

What is it? • A web-based resource for students and parents that encourages and supports post high school career and college planning • Family Connection is specific to River Hill • Family Connection is linked with Naviance Succeed, a service that is used by Student Services.

How is it accessed? Family Connection is web-based • https://connection.naviance.com/riverhillhigh • Student accounts • Parent accounts
How do you register? • Students received a registration code last year. • Parents will receive a separate registration code • Registration codes are used to create accounts • Codes are random and alphanumeric for security reasons • Codes can be used only once • On your first visit, enter the code in the New User box, then follow on-screen instructions to create a user name and password (see slide #9) • On subsequent visits, sign in using the Returning User box
